Although themes and extensions don’t make as dramatic of a difference in vscode as they do in atom, visual studio code handles the extensions more efficiently for an overall faster experience. True, used sublime, vs code and atom, atom is slowest one , idk why but vs code beats it at faster speed and more support and extension available to use. Also, while it rather applies to themes rather than code editors themselves, atom material ui developers have done a much better job with contrast , especially when considering the light version, which i use very often.

I've now been using vscode for a few months, mainly since it started working better with powershell, and i'm really liking it. Both editors are free, but the difference is that vs code download is controlled by proprietary license while the atom is controlled by mit license. I must say that i was wrong (i hate to admit it though) and what ms accomplished here is rather nice. And i was able to create an extension for vscode, while the atom api for extensions left me completely baffled, and seemed to be missing some major pieces such as a way to report diagnostics/errors to the user.

Looking around, though, there is a lot out there discussing atom, the editor from github based on the same framework that vscode is based on. Vs code is the most prevalent choice among developers due to its average to good performance, powerful features and good ux/ui. Visual studio code fares better than atom, but either is noticeably slow when compared to an editor like vim or even sublime text.

The navigation system is a bit odd compared to the other 3. Both atom and visual studio code editors have the autocomplete feature. Visual studio code, however, is more powerful than atom.
The Clean Ui, Easy To Use Ux And The Plethora Of Integrations Made It A Very Easy Decision For Us.
Combined with atom's general ui layout, it just has this cleaner look to it, even when compared with still awesome vs code. Asana, microsoft, and intuit are some of the popular companies that use visual studio code, whereas atom is used by lyft, typeform, and pedidosya. It doesn't have the polished interface of atom.
